Microbiology lecture course explores the biology of microorganisms, with a focus on their structure, function, classification, and roles in health and disease. Topics include microbial cell biology, metabolism, genetics, information flow, evolution, immunology, pathogenic microorganisms, host-microbe interactions, and methods of microbial control such as antibiotics and sterilization and ecology. Emphasis is placed on the relevance of microbiology to medicine, public health, and biotechnology.

Prerequisite: BIO 143 and BIO 143L

Corequisite: BIO 321L
