BIO 143 - General Biology I

General Biology 1 examines the fundamental principles of biology, with an emphasis on the molecular and cellular basis of life. Topics include the scientific method, basic chemistry of life, cell structure and function, membrane transport, enzymes and metabolism, cellular respiration, photosynthesis, cell division (mitosis and meiosis), genetics, DNA structure and function, information flow and biotechnology. The course is designed for science majors and pre-professional students, providing a strong foundation for advanced study in the biological sciences.

This course plus BIO 143L  is equivalent to SCI 2431  and SCI 2432  (both must be taken).

Corequisite: BIO 143L
