Intercultural Youth Development Major (B.S.)

This major is offered through the School of Arts & Sciences. Demonstrate God’s heart for righteousness and justice at the intersection of need and development. Crown’s Intercultural Youth Development program prepares reflective practitioners, who understand culture and themselves, and who are ready to make a difference in the local and global issues of the day. Designed for a broad range of applications from overseas to local, and from youth empowerment to discipleship, this practical degree is specifically for the follower of Jesus ready to make an appropriate and sustainable difference in the world.

Program Requirements

Christian Studies Core

I. Christian Studies - 24 Credits

General Education Core

II. General Education - 30 Credits

  • Communication Elective 3 Credits (Choose from: COM 133 , COM 140  or COM 252 )
  • 3 Credits
  • History Elective 3 Credits
  • Math or Science Elective 3-4 Credits
  • Communication, Humanities, Math, Science or Social Science Electives 17-18 Credits2,3*

Major Core

III. Intercultural Youth Development Major - 59-62 Credits

IV. Electives - 36-39 Credits*

A minimum of 36 credits must be at the upper (300-400) level for a bachelor degree.

* Some courses from the Christian Studies Core and Major Core can be used to fulfill requirements in the General Education Core. By doing that the number of electives needed would increase so that the minimum of 125 credits is reached.

Total - 125 Credits

1 Interdisciplinary courses in the major core that are cross listed as BIB or THE will fulfill this requirement. Choose Christian Ministry electives from CHM 300 , CHM 301  or CHM 326 .

2 Select humanities electives from COM, ENG, FAR, HIS, HUM, LAN, MUS, PHI, or PRC.

3 Select social science electives from ANT, CSJ, ECO, GEO, HIS, POL, PSY, or SOC.

Students have the option to declare a second major in Christian Studies which is earned by completing the Christian Studies Core plus six credits of upper level Bible/Theology electives (which are part of the major core).

Freshman Year

Spring Semester - 15-16 Credits

Sophomore Year

Departmental Acceptance

Students apply for departmental acceptance during their sophomore year spring semester or their junior year fall semester. A minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA with a GPA of 2.5 for courses in the major is required for departmental admission in the Intercultural Youth Development major.

Junior Year
