The Communication Department offers a Bachelor of Arts degree which allows students to choose from one of four concentrations. The Communication Core lays a strong foundation, while the concentrations focus course work in specific areas of interest. Four minors compliment any of the concentrations as well as majors from other departments. Communication majors may also choose minors from other academic disciplines.
This program is designed to challenge the student both academically and spiritually. “Excellent character prepares for an excellent performance.” A clean heart and a good work ethic become the foundation for great performance.
“Performance is for achievement of objective, not the honor of men.” As Christian artists, our first responsibility is to honor and glorify the Lord Jesus Christ in all that we say and do; whether it be in our performance or projects. Any God-given talents or abilities should be used not to bring attention to ourselves, but as a mirror reflecting people back to Christ. We strive for excellence in our work based on the biblical directive found in Ecclesiastes 9:10, “Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might.” We filter our work through the apostle Paul’s words in Philippians 4:8 “..whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy— think about such things.” Performance for the Christian artist may not always be innately religious, but it should always be God-honoring. We serve a creative God, who has imparted us the ability to be creative. When properly focused, these abilities can become effective tools to bring others to Christ.
Upon completion of this degree students will be prepared to enter their chosen field or to continue their studies on a graduate level. This program is designed to accommodate students in the Crown Honors Program. All Crown students have access to several study-abroad programs where a full semester of course work may be transferred into their major.

Department Goals
- Demonstrate a broad knowledge of communication study through essential written, verbal or media communication skills
- Apply critical thinking skills to the critique of cultural artifacts and the various media of communication from a Christ-centered perspective
- Develop an understanding of responsible communication and message impact on society and cultures
- Display relevancy in communication through production within convergent/integrated media
