COU 6260 - Counseling Practicum


3 Credits
Counseling Practicum (“Practicum”) involves a practical clinical experience in an approved agency or other appropriate setting with an approved supervisor. Practicum provides an introduction to a supervised, field-based, work experience wherein students begin to integrate and synthesize counseling theories and techniques, develop the professional qualities, characteristics, and behaviors of a counselor, and observe seasoned professional counselors. Students must successfully complete 100 hours with 40 of those hours being direct client hours to successfully pass Practicum. Site supervisors and faculty will evaluate student progress and determine student readiness for internship coursework. Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory grading.

Prerequisite: 39 completed master’s credits in the degree which must include: COU 5010 , COU 5012 , COU 5210 , COU 5212 , COU 6012  and COU 6014 . Students may take COU 6214  and Practicum concurrently. Must be taken BEFORE COU 6261 - Counseling Internship I .
