Sport Management Major (B.S.)

This major is offered through the School of Arts & Sciences. The Sport Management major prepares students to serve Christ as marketplace missionaries in the field of sport management in both the private and public sectors. The degree is designed to assist students in acquiring organizational and managerial expertise in the health, fitness and sport management fields as well as to assist students in gaining an understanding of personnel management and supervisory dynamics.

Program Requirements


Christian Studies Core


I. Christian Studies - 24 Credits


General Education Core


II. General Education - 30 Credits


  • Communication Elective 3 Credits (Choose from: COM 133 , COM 140  or COM 252 )
  • 3 Credits
  • History Elective 3 Credits
  • Math or Science Elective 3-4 Credits
  • Communication, Humanities, Math, Science or Social Science Electives 17-18 Credits2,3*

  • Electives (300-400 level) 9 Credits

A minimum of 36 credits must be at the upper (300-400) level for a bachelor degree.

* Some courses from the Christian Studies Core can be used to fulfill requirements in the General Education Core. In addition, some courses required by the major can be used to fulfill requirements in the Christian Studies or General Education Cores. By doing that the number of electives needed would increase so that the minimum of 125 credits is reached.

Total - 125 Credits


1 Interdisciplinary courses in the major core that are cross listed as BIB or THE will fulfill this requirement. Choose Christian Ministry electives from CHM 300 , CHM 301  or CHM 326 .

2 Select humanities electives from COM, ENG, FAR, HIS, HUM, LAN, MUS, PHI, or PRC.

3 Select social science electives from ANT, CSJ, ECO, GEO, HIS, POL, PSY, or SOC.

Option: Accelerated Degree Program


Qualified students in the B.S. in Sport Management program may apply for an accelerated degree program to earn their Sports Coaching and Administration (M.A.)  in an additional year instead of the typical two years. Course Requirements for M.A. in Sports Coaching and Administration


Students who are accepted into the accelerated program for Sports Coaching and Administration (M.A.)  will substitute the following graduate level courses into the undergraduate degree.

Departmental Acceptance


Students apply for departmental acceptance during their sophomore year spring semester or their junior year fall semester. A minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA is required for departmental admission in the Sport Management major.
