Music and Worship Arts Major (B.A.)


This program is designed to equip students for the music and worship ministry in the local church. It includes the same strong foundation in applied skills and musicology as the B.A. in Music and the B.M.E. in Music Education, but in addition students will learn ministry skills, leadership skills, biblical theology of worship and production aspects of a worship ministry.  Students will spend a semester on internship in a local church further equipping them to serve as members of a pastoral staff.

At least 30% of this degree, or a minimum of 38 credits, must be at the upper (300-400) level.

Students may choose a Music concentration or add a minor from another department.

Total - 125-143 Credits *


  • Students must complete and submit a Worship Arts Reference Form and audition for the program prior to acceptance.
  • Students must be accepted into the Music Program by the end of their sophomore year.
  • The following ensembles count toward performance credits: MUS 366 , MUS 371 , MUS 373A , MUS 377 , MUS 383 , and MUS 384 .
  • Piano Lab: Students must take Piano Lab their first year and then private instruction for 1 or 0 credits until the piano proficiency level for their program has been met. Entering students who have a proficiency that surpasses Piano Lab may choose to test out of the class and move directly to private instruction.
  • Worship Arts students must earn at least 4 performance credits from a major performance organization. No more than 3 credits may be earned from a ministry team.

1 Select humanities electives from COM, ENG, ESL, FAR, HIS, HUM, LAN, MUS, PHI, or PRC.

2 Select social science electives from ANT, CSJ, ECO, ESL, GEO, HIS, POL, PSY, or SOC.

4 Fine arts courses include music, art, drama, and dance. COM 328  and COM 446  also qualify as fine arts electives. (Only three credits of music organizations and/or lessons can be counted toward humanities/fine arts requirements.)

5 Students are required to have 7 semesters of private lessons on their major instruments and must enroll in private lessons on their instrument each semester until their recital.

6 Participation in a major ensemble (as approved by the Music Department) relating to their major instrument for 4 semesters is required. Music and Worship Art majors may fulfill this requirement with Team Participation or Ministry Team for a maximum of three semesters.

7 Music and Worship Arts majors must have seven (7) satisfactory semesters of Music Hour. Transfer students must complete a Music Hour credit for every semester enrolled in the Music Department at Crown College except during internship. Their final semester, students take MUS 490  instead of MUS 090 .

* Some courses from the Christian Studies Core and Major Core can be used to fulfill requirements in the General Education Core. By doing that the number of electives needed would increase so that the minimum of 125 credits is reached.

Departmental Acceptance


Students apply for departmental acceptance during their sophomore year spring semester or their junior year fall semester. A minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA and completion of half of the Christian Service requirements are required for departmental admission in the Music and Worship Arts major.
