Biblical, Theological and Ministry Studies Department

Department Chair: Dr. Nickolas A. Fox

The Biblical, Theological and Ministry Studies Department exists to deepen the student’s understanding of God’s Word and to equip men and women as leaders in the Church and the world. We take seriously Jesus’ charge to love God and others (Mark 12:28-31) and to make disciples (Matthew 28:19-20). We seek to prepare students to engage passionately with the world and its opportunities as ambassadors for Christ (2 Corinthians 5:20) in the contemporary world.

Students either:

  1. Participate in a robust internship, practicing and applying what they are learning to prepare them for a ministry field, or
    1. Intercultural Studies Major (B.S.)
    2. Ministry Studies Major, Pastoral Leadership Concentration (B.S.)
    3. Ministry Studies Major, Worship Ministry Concentration (B.S.)
    4. Ministry Studies Major, Youth & Next Generation Concentration (B.S.)
  2. Write and present a senior thesis at a local undergraduate research conference.
    1. Biblical and Theological Studies Major (B.A.)

All majors receive a strong biblical and theological foundation. Notably, our Ministry Studies Major is designed to give each student a robust foundation in ministry essentials, while also allowing them to choose a concentration that tailors their skills to what they want to do. Those concentrations are (1) Pastoral Leadership, (2) Worship Ministry, and (3) Youth and Next Gen. Additionally, with each major, students may select a minor or integrative electives in consultation with their academic advisor.

The four pillars of the BTMS department-the qualities we insist are instilled in all department graduates regardless of major or concentration-are:

Department Goals

  • A strong ability to know and interpret God’s Word faithfully,
  • Exemplary Christian character that comes from the ability to connect to the Father’s heart,
  • Relevant cultural competency that helps professions meet and engage the culture and God’s diverse creation head on, and
  • Robust practical skills that they need for their ministry context.

Our curriculum is designed so that all majors in our department will receive essential instruction in these core areas.
