International Relations Major (B.A.)


Inspired by Daniel, Esther, Nehemiah, Paul and others who ministered at the intersection of faith, culture, and power, Crown College’s International Relations major develops thoughtful and articulate professionals and international workers able to serve in today’s demanding and shifting contexts. Built on the foundation of the Christian Studies and General Education Core, International Relations prepares students to integrate Jesus-centered faith with practical and fruitful service among both the poor and the powerful among the least-reached peoples of the globe. Crown’s International Relations major also stands alone for its intentional incorporation of rigorous intercultural training, with graduates excelling in the increasingly needed skills of behavioral and cognitive frame-shifting. This major is applicable from traditional overseas roles to contemporary political settings.

Students may accentuate their major core studies by carefully selecting electives in consultation with their advisor. Areas of focus may include the following:

  •          Peacemaking
  •          The Church and Socio-Political Involvement
  •          Hmong Ministry
  •          Discipleship, Mentoring and Urban Ministry

Students may accentuate their major core studies by carefully selecting electives in consultation with their advisor. Areas of focus may include the following:

  •          Peacemaking
  •          The Church and Socio-Political Involvement
  •          Hmong Ministry
  •          Discipleship, Mentoring and Urban Ministry

At least 30% of this degree, or a minimum of 38 credits, must be at the upper (300-400) level.

* Some courses from the Christian Studies Core and Major Core can be used to fulfill requirements in the General Education Core. By doing that the number of electives needed would increase so that the minimum of 125 credits is reached.

1 Select humanities electives from COM, ENG, ESL, FAR, HIS, HUM, LAN, MUS, PHI, or PRC.

2 Select social science electives from ANT, CSJ, ECO, ESL, GEO, HIS, POL, PSY, or SOC.

3 Select fine arts electives from FAR and MUS. (Only three credits of music organizations and/or lessons can be counted toward humanities/fine arts requirements.)

Departmental Acceptance


Students apply for departmental acceptance during their sophomore year spring semester or their junior year fall semester. A minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA, GPA of 2.5 for courses in major, and completion of half of the service credit requirements are required for departmental admission in the International Relations major.
