Urban Studies Major (B.S.)

This major provides the student with the philosophical, theoretical and experiential framework needed to move into professional ministry in the urban context. The Urban Ministry major provides an intensive service-learning component in its one year residential experience in Minneapolis during junior or senior year (junior year preferred). Program faculty include professionals who are highly recognized in their fields. Junior status required. Limit of three students per semester based on competitive criteria. Program Requirements


I. Christian Studies - 30 Credits


II. General Education - 38 Credits


IV. Electives - 6 Credits *


Total - 125 Credits


1 Select humanities electives from COM, ENG, ESL, FAR, HIS, HUM, LAN, MUS, PHI, or PRC.

2 Select social science electives from ANT, CSJ, ECO, ESL, GEO, HIS, POL, PSY, or SOC.

* Some courses from the Christian Studies Core and Major Core can be used to fulfill requirements in the General Education Core. By doing that the number of electives needed would increase so that the minimum of 125 credits is reached.

** Three credits taken each semester of the junior year.

Note: Students must apply by October 1 of their Sophomore year to participate in the Urban School of Ministry for their junior year.

Departmental Acceptance


Students apply for departmental acceptance during their sophomore year spring semester or their junior year fall semester. A minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA and completion of half of the Christian Service requirements are required for departmental admission in the Urban Ministry major.
