Elementary Education Major, Middle School Math Minor (B.S.)


The Elementary Education major with a Middle School Math minor is designed to prepare students for a public and private teaching career in grades K-6 with an endorsement in grades 5-8. The program is structured to meet the Minnesota Board of Teaching Elementary Education and Endorsement licensure requirements. The student must be accepted into the Teacher Education Department and meet all of the requirements.

Program Requirements


I. Christian Studies - 24 Credits


II. General Education - 30 Credits


A. Middle School Communication Arts & Literature Minor - 19 Credits


C. Middle School Science Minor - 18-19 Credits


F. Elementary Education K-6 Only - 16 Credits


Students who want to pursue the K-6 Elementary Education license only must receive approval from the Teacher Education deparment.

Total - 125-130 Credits


1 Select humanities electives from COM, ENG, ESL, FAR, HIS, HUM, LAN, MUS, PHI, or PRC.

2 Select social science electives from ANT, CSJ, ECO, ESL, GEO, HIS, POL, PSY, or SOC.

3 Fine arts courses include music, art, drama, and dance. COM 328  also qualifies as a fine arts elective. (Only three credits of music organizations and/or lessons can be counted toward humanities/fine arts requirements.)

* Some courses from the Christian Studies Core and Major Core can be used to fulfill requirements in the General Education Core. By doing that the number of credits needed for graduation would be toward the lower end of the range of total credits.

^ Requires a minimum passing grade of a “C”.

Note: Student teaching is eligible for a Christian Service unit.

Freshman Year

Sophomore Year


Departmental Acceptance


Students apply for departmental acceptance during their sophomore year spring semester or their junior year fall semester. A minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA and completion of half of the Christian Service requirements are required for departmental admission in the Elementary Education major.
